Start with the grade level

  • Elementary: usually kindergarten through grade 5.
  • Middle: usually grades 6 through 8.
  • High: usually grades 9 through 12.

Pre-K is separate. Some schools offer it, but the program has its own rules. Charter schools, virtual school and special centers may serve different grades. Use the SCPS school directory for official school links.

Nine local schools to explore

These are school examples, not assignments for any home. A school’s city does not set its attendance zone. The rows also do not show which school a child moves to next.

On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read all four columns.

PK means pre-kindergarten. A pre-K listing does not promise a place for every child in the zone. Ask SCPS about the program and its rules. Seminole High has separate 9th Grade Center information; check the right campus for your student.

Check the exact home address

  1. Open SCPS School Zone Search.
  2. Enter the full address, including the unit when needed.
  3. Check the elementary, middle and high school results.
  4. Confirm the result and intended school year with SCPS before relying on it for a purchase.

A ZIP code, community name or nearby campus is not enough. Save the result and date so you can review it with the district.

Some Lake Mary and Sanford addresses fall into an Elementary Region School Zone. Those families must apply for an assignment. Follow the assignment email, accept the seat and complete enrollment by the stated deadline.

Know when an application is needed

For a regular zoned school, SCPS says a school-choice application is not needed. Elementary Region addresses are an exception.

Magnets, transfers and controlled open enrollment have their own rules. Check who can apply, dates, seats, acceptance steps and transportation. An application does not guarantee a place.

Charter schools are public schools with a separate application and enrollment process. For private schools, contact the school about admission, tuition and fees. An SCPS school-zone result does not enroll a child in either option.

Follow the right enrollment steps

Choose the instructions for a new student, a returning student or a move within SCPS. They are not all the same. Contact the assigned school if you need help.

Use the district’s current registration checklist. It explains proof of age and residence, health records and other documents. Ask which prior-school records are needed. Do not assume a future closing date proves current residence.

For a high-school move, ask how completed courses and credits will transfer. For pre-K to kindergarten, follow the separate kindergarten enrollment or choice steps.

Ask questions about your child’s school day

  • Which courses and programs fit your child’s needs?
  • What support and activities are available?
  • How will transportation work for this address or program?
  • What are the school-day and after-school options?
  • What must be done before the student can start?

Use each school’s official site and speak with the school. A broad ranking or a city name cannot answer these questions for one child.

Connect school steps with the move

Check schools while you compare homes. Keep school application dates, purchase deadlines and moving dates on one calendar. Ask SCPS about the documents needed for your situation.

I can help with the home search and purchase timing. SCPS decides school assignment and admission. Start with Lake Mary, Longwood or Sanford homes, or tell me about your planned move.

Does buying near a school guarantee a place?

No. Check the home’s address and the school’s admission process. Being nearby is not enough.

Can I rely on the schools listed with a home?

Use them as a starting point. Confirm the address, grade and school year directly with SCPS.

Does a magnet application count as enrollment?

No. Follow the application, acceptance and enrollment steps for that program.
